Farm animals, they have such a beautiful soul, character, and charm.  How do you capture that in your artwork?  …through the expressive nature of soft pastels.  It’s such a joyful and freeing medium to use, it really captures the moment and personality.  This class is all about bringing our animals to life and really capturing that soul and letting it shine!

The cost for this class is $49 US.

A short while ago I created my class “talk to the animals” using charcoal and white pastel, now we go full colour!

These lessons are a simple process of adding layers of pastel, building up the dark and light areas, adding details and simple strokes and marks.  I will show you a simple method to get you initial sketch on the paper, using shapes to build up the form.  Perfect for beginners 🙂

In this class we will create 3 drawings of different farm animals, we use toned pastel paper to create on, however I also discuss how you can make your own toned paper using watercolour paper.

 We’ll use about a dozen or so soft pastels to colour with, I have a big collection, however you don’t need a lot to do this class.  You will need soft earthy tones, I recommend getting a “portrait” set as it will have the best range of colours for these animals.  The Sennelier portrait set of half sticks is a great set, plus you will need black and white. (refer below to my colour chart)

Who is this class for?

This is a beginners to intermediate class incorporating basic drawing and soft pastel techniques.   You will gain access to over 4.5 hours of video in which I walk you through each step of the process – no sped-up parts, you see everything as I explain it.

You will have access to my combined private FACEBOOK GROUP with others that are also taking my classes to share your work and get feedback.

So easy, informative classes……will even have the non artist like me producing master pieces. Honestly these classes are great fun, with easy to follow steps to suit all levels of expertise. Be warned very addictive, you won’t be able to stop at just one class.

What supplies will I need for the class?

Please use what you already have in your collection.
The items below are what I have used in this class.

• Set of soft pastels – earthy tones – Sennelier Portrait set has great colours (refer below for my colour swatch chart)
• 3 or 4 pastel pencils – black, white, brown and yellow tones
• Toned pastel paper – Mi Teintes Canson – I use half of a 50x65cm sheet approx. 32.5x42cm (12.5”x16”)
  • Colours I use are Gris Chine 200331444, Gris Ardoise 200321064, Gris Fumee 20033143 (go by the numbers as often the names are different)
• easel
• tracing paper – optional
• eraser
• fixative or sealer (optional – these do not “seal” your work but may help to fix it a little, however the colours will darken so use with care and very lightly!) I use Krylon Fine Art Fixatif 1374

*** I use an easel in this class – a small table mounted one, these lessons are best done vertically due to the pastel dust so I highly recommend getting an easel if you do not have one.
