Sometimes all you have to do is look at art and you get a big smile on your face! Art always evokes an emotion, and this class is all about HAPPY!!! Colour, shape, line and pattern …all merging together in a beautiful dance 🙂 This is a spontaneous form of creativity, letting the pattern sing and the colours jump for joy!
The cost for this class is US$45
This class uses a simple intuitive process, where we let the patterns guide us to begin with, and then use expanses of solid, bold, colour to tie it all together. There are no rules about which colours to use, we will just go for what calls us. This art is HAPPY to look at, and HAPPY to create 🙂
This class incorporates four full artworks — 2 larger 16×20″ (above) and 2 small canvases 8×8″ (below).
But before we get to the canvas we will create our patterned collage papers using a gelli plate and stencils. Bring your boldest, brightest colours!
Please note that if you do not have a Gelli Plate I will show you how you can make the prints directly onto your paper without the plate.
We’ll work up our four pieces using my small reference sketches as our design basis, and I’ll discuss how you can make your own sketches. I’ll have around a dozen reference sketches in the classroom for you to choose from when creating your own artworks. These are just a few of them…

This class includes around 3.5 hours of video. You will watch the complete project’s from start to finish as I create these four funky still life artworks 🙂
Who is this class for?
This class is perfect for beginners and intermediate level artists. The class incorporates basic printmaking and acrylic painting with really simple drawing techniques. It is a work at your own pace class. You will gain access to around 3.5 hours of video in which I walk you through each step of the projects.
This is an open ended workshop with no expiration date. Plus all the videos are downloadable and yours to keep!
You will have access to the combined private FACEBOOK GROUP with others that are also taking my classes, to share your work and get feedback.

What supplies will I need for the class?
Please use what you already have in your collection. The items below are what I have used in this class.
- Assorted acrylic paints – any kind will work (fluid acrylics are best for the pattern printing, and heavy body for the broad areas of colour, I use many different brands and mix them all together)
- Gelli Plate – (mine is 8×10″) (preferred but not essential, I’ll show you how to make prints without one, but they turn out a little better if you have one)
- Rubber brayer
- Assorted stencils – geometrics work best
- Assorted brushes – mostly flat from about 5mm to 2cm (1/8″ to 3/4″), plus a couple of round brushes, small.
- Liquitex Matte Gel
- Plastic scraper or old credit card
- Charcoal or watersoluble pencil
- Stretched Canvas – 2 x 16×20″, 2 x 8×8″ (you can use another size, it’s not critical)
- Paper to make your prints (30-40 sheets, or more!) – I use A4 size tracing paper, you can also use Greaseproof roll (from the supermarket) or regular white copy/printer paper. Use what you have, I do discuss the paper and show you how each type will work.
- Varnish to finish – I use Liquitex Matte/Gloss varnish mix.
