Bloom …it’s a word that speaks of sunshine, and dew and of fresh smelling perfume. Of joy and wonder, and of our mother earth. This class is all about capturing those elements with the looseness of watercolour and graphite.
Description
When you look upon a flower you get a sense of its life, its beauty, its JOY! There is a magic in its scent, in the colour of its petals, in the form and shape of its leaves. The way it wafts in a breeze, turns towards the warmth of the sun…. it is a joy to behold. You can capture all of those things with the wonderful medium of watercolour.
The cost for this class is US$64.
I love to have a few sunny flowers and some leaves or branches sitting on my kitchen counter in a simple jar or bottle. For me it’s actually the little gems you find when on a walk, growing on the side of a path, in a ditch, that are my favourites, I love the simplicity of their beauty, they will grow anywhere 🙂
In this class we aim to capture that spirit, the softness and the character of the bloom.
We will capture the essence of each flower using basic watercolour layering techniques, and scribbly scratchy pencil work. We’ll create with a looseness that makes the painting feel alive and joyful.
They all have their own personality, charm and character. Come and join me and create your own lovely watercolour blooms.
Who is this class for?
This is a beginners/intermediate class incorporating basic watercolour painting and simple drawing techniques. If you are brand new to drawing or watercolours I recommend you take my Stems class first as it is a little more basic.
There are 4 full length projects in this class. It is a work at your own pace class. You will gain access around 4 hours of video in which I walk you through each step of the projects.
This is an open ended workshop with no expiration date. Plus all the videos are downloadable and yours to keep!
You will have access to my private combined FACEBOOK GROUP with others that are also taking my classes, to share your work and get feedback.

What supplies will I need for the class?
Please use what you already have in your collection. The items below are what I have used in this class.
- Watercolour paper – 12 x 12” – I use Arches Cold pressed
- Watercolour brushes – variety of round medium. I use

- Raven quill round sizes 2, 0, 3/0
- Flat synthetic brush about ½ inch or 15mm wide
- Watercolours – A variety of colours (please use what you have). The main colours I use are:

- Helios Purple/Opera Rose, Primary Red, Crimson, French Ochre, Lemon Yellow, Orange, Sap green, Phthalo Green, Green Earth, Greenish Umber, Ultramarine blue, Quin. Gold., Sepia, Neutral Grey/Paynes grey.
- White Gouache tube
- 2b and 8b grahite pencil
- Masking Fluid – I use Dr Ph Martins level 2.
- Paint palette, water jar, paper towels, tissues, sharpener, eraser.
