Welcome to the “uncovered” classroom!
I have been planning this class for quite some time now, and I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently….now it’s finally here!
In this class we will “uncover” the mysteries (they are not that mysterious!) to creating loose and emotive figures.
I’ll show you my simple steps to getting your drawing just right, and to scale, and then how to apply and layer the loose watercolour.
Where do we start? – with a great reference image! When I choose my images I am looking for pleasing angles and a dynamic pose, something that will fill the paper nicely and that has a good balance. It’s important to the overall finished product to start with a great reference. When you’re choosing your images think carefully about how they will look as finished drawings. Near the bottom of this page you will find a link to a site (Croquis Cafe) that has many many images that you can use for free, it’s a great resource.
The first part of this class involves creating a couple of “practice” pieces. I do two of these, but I encourage you to try as many as you need to in order to feel comfortable with the process. You can’t do too much practice I always say 🙂 These will be our first 2 girls. Don’t worry about how perfect they are or what may or may not be wrong with them, use this first stage to get the “feel” for using your materials.
In the second part of the class we will create three larger pieces and spend just a bit more time on them. Though there is very little difference in what we will do, these are larger so a bit more involved. These are our 3 girls.
I use a different mix of watercolours for each girl, however feel free to use the colours that you prefer or that you have in your collection. You can use your practice pieces to try out different combinations.
This class is broken up into two main parts, Part One – the practice phase, and Part Two – the 3 main projects.
This page contains all the classroom content and links to the videos for the lessons (which are right at the bottom of this page!).
I have a private combined Facebook group for all of my classes called “a journey for the soul”. Here you can share your artwork with others taking my classes, and gain feedback and ask questions.
I will add or invite you to the group after you join the class. If you have already purchased a class from me before you should already be in the group (if you use Facebook).
(If your login email and facebook email are different please message me as sometimes it is difficult to join the group as it is a secret group.)
Scroll to the bottom of this page where you will find the link to the lesson videos.
Please use what you already have in your collection. The items below are what I have used in this class.
I highly recommend the Arches Cold Press paper if you can get it. If you are in Australia the most economical place to buy is Amazon.com.au and Jackson’s in the UK. If you’re an Amazon Prime member international shipping is free.
