bold expression – new class and giveaway!

Do you long to be bold?  To create emotive and vibrant portraits, that tell a story and are full of personality?  My new class is now live – Bold Expression.

Soft pastels are such a wonderfully expressive media, they are so immediate and totally lend themselves to spontaneity! This is a class full of boldness – bold in colour and bold in expression! It incorporates big pop’s of vibrant colour, with the looseness and freedom of soft pastel strokes on the paper. This wonderful expressive medium is such a joy to work with.

  1. The giveaway is now closed, thanks to everyone who entered I loved seeing all your comments. Congratulations to Donna H and Amber K who won the 2 spots in this class.

  2. I’m a charcoal addict, trying very hard to dip my toes into more colorful waters! Currently, I am enjoying rusty earth tones with pinks. And I’m looking so forward to expanding my horizons!

  3. Teal and orange appear frequently in my work, but it may be time for a change. There is no better way to get inspired than by taking a Toni Burt Class!

  4. This is a really hard question to answer because I love all colors – really! But if I had to choose, I’d say pink and green. They just always make me happy when I see them together. 😊

  5. I am a jewel tone type of person, so purples, teal, emerald green, etc. So interesting for faces!

  6. I love bright colors paired with navy or indigo… like maybe a splash of lime and yellow, or a splash of lavender and a lighter blue coral. Or with a splash of neon red and pastel orange. When against the dark blue they shine even brighter. I’d love a chance to win this portrait class. I’m getting better with proportions and movement but would like to work on expression and emotion more… and I just bought some colorful soft pastel sticks on a whim!!! Can’t wait to get going with them!

  7. I can never think what colours to put together for bold combinations. I love seeing how ppl do this and the outcomes. I enjoy vibrancy, but can never come up with it myself LOL. I’d go for a colour combination of pink and teal.

  8. I just love hot pinks and salmon tones! But I equally love the turquoise and teals! So putting coral and turquoise as my two colors is a fun thing to try I’m thinking! 🩵💙❤️💖

  9. I have been following along as you have developed this type portrait and would love to incorporate more freedom into my portraits. I think my first color choice would be phthalo blue and rust or burnt sienna. Thanks for hosting a giveaway.

  10. I would love to experiment with a bold color and a more muted color and how that could play out.

  11. This class looks fabulous! I’ve recently been playing with a mustard yellow and dusky pink, and love how they look together.

  12. I would use shades of gray and rose with a lime green background and pops of it in her hair and shadow areas.

  13. I LOVE THE SHADES OF SUNRISE AND SUNSET IN OUR DIFFERENT ‘SEASONS’ HERE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF MONTANA … THE BRIGHT PINKS, REDS AND YELLOWS AGAINST A BACKDROP OF BLUE SKY OF THE RISING SUN. … AND THE REDS AND ORANGES WITH A PURPLE HAZE IN THE SKY AT SUNSET. WITH A POP OF WHITE IN VARIOUS HUES AT BOTH TIMES ON THE CLOCK.

  14. Oh how wonderful these bold expressive ladies are!!! My favourite colours are orange and green!!! I think I would love to go bold with Orange, green and Gold!! 💗👏

  15. I for sure need some vibrant colors in my life right now, my choice would be yellow, red, pink, orange, turquoise and a little touch of some fluorescent color to.

    And now 🤞😉

  21. I love blue and green.
Thank you Toni for this wonderful course and the opportunity to participate and learn!!

  22. In my potter I use beachy and earthy tones. I’m having a wonderful time stepping outside of my usual creative comfort zone – so I’m open to anything!! Probably brights – hard to achieve on clay.

    1. Anything…I just love colour of any description. The more the better for me. Love to win this.

  23. I would love some neon colours, pinks blues and oranges!! Bright and expressive!!! Fill the scene with an explosion of colour!!!

  24. Indigo Blue and Raw Umber with some Magenta thrown it. Thanks for the giveaway and Happy Valentine’s Day.

  25. Always love your work and your pops of vivid colour. I love an earth tone like burnt sienna with a bright turquoise! Thanks for the chance to win your class!

  26. Color can invoke emotions. For example, blue and peach to show depression overcoming someone or red with gold for passion. Your last image makes me feel like this woman has had a sad and hard life with moments of hope and love. You are an amazing artist!
